Alma Peña -Trevizón

Escuela North High School

Lots of different strategies to write, read, speak and listen

My name is Alma Peña-Trevizón, and I had the pleasure of completing my student teaching at North High School, where Dr. Martín was my mentor from January 2022 to December 2022. I had the opportunity to observe her Spanish for Native Speakers classes, which include a variety of strategies for writing, reading, speaking, and listening to ensure that students learn and engage in class. These strategies include reading interesting stories and books, learning new vocabulary, oral presentations, creating presentations, and philosophical discussions. Students are always developing critical thinking skills and actively participating in class.

Rigorous plans

My passion for teaching Native and Heritage Spanish classes began when I observed Dr. Martín, and now I am teaching those classes at John F. Kennedy High School. As a new teacher, I still have the support of Dr. Martín and other colleagues like Mr. Pabón and Dr. Márquez in developing lesson plans and implementing them. I receive assistance in creating more rigorous plans and assignments for students at their grade level.
